UPDATE
FROM THE PRESIDENT 3-22-/2009
LET’S ASSEMBLE IN AUSTIN on March 28, 2009. Please stay
the night on March 27, 2009 if you can. Let’s enjoy
Austin’s unique hospitality.
Jeanne, Debbie, Carlos, Gloria, Angela, and I attended
the USSF National meeting on Orlando. Carlos
spearheaded our interests as Region III Director. A
groundswell drafted Jeanne to a successful bid as Region
III Treasurer. Angela was at the vanguard of the
Women’s Task Force. Debbie was a beacon for us. The
USSF affirmed its basic disinterest for adult soccer.
USASA will convene a summit by the October mid-year
meeting in Phoenix to re-define its mission. The
insouciance of the USSF and the soul-searching of the
USASA, while somewhat disheartening, concretize our
mission.
In Texas-South, we will lead. Our mission is our
stewardship of the game from the ground up. We will play
and build football as it is meant to be built and
played. I am enthusiastic about the number of available
tournaments for all teams to participate. From the
State Cups to the HFA tournament to the Soccer Blast to
Fiesta to the Cinco-de-Mayo to the Kick it by the Sea
and other venues within South Texas to the National Coed
Cup, Veteran’s Cup and numerous other opportunities
outside South Texas, let’s show how football is played
and enjoyed. I was thrilled with the optimism and
imagination of the logo for the Babe Zaharias Tournament
– it leads.
As the USASA Summit approaches, what do our players and
teams need from the USASA and from Texas-South? I can
never stop asking this question. Do we need access to
trainers for League or team sessions? Do we need team
or position clinics? Do we need anything more than
lower player fees? Is insurance important or not? Let
me know by email or in Austin.
We have to adopt the 2009-2010 Budget in Austin. Thanks
to Debra for emailing the draft budget and financials
well before Austin. Please read Debra’s work product.
Please email any comments you may have in the week
leading up to Austin.
We continue to try to grow the number of referees and
the number of players. We lead in the effort to add
more women players which will increase the number of
women and coed teams directly and will indirectly
increase the number of men players.
Merci.
Pace e salute.
