TSSAS President
MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
The World Cup is over. It was more compelling for
the off-the-pitch affairs than for the style of play
on-the-pitch. Congratulations to Spain – a deserved
winner.
The US cobbled good luck and athleticism to get out of
its Group. In 2012, I want to read the pundits write
about the US team that has revolutionized football just
as the Magnificent Magyars did in the 1950’s and the
Dutch did in the 1970’s.
Among the “negative” technical styles, the fear of not
losing, and just the immense pressure in the World Cup,
we did not see free-flowing football (even from Spain
and unlike Manchester United Third Team that displayed
simple quick passing). It seemed that, after listening
to most post-match interviews of the team coaches, many
teams did not want to win, but just subsist. Ten month
team competitions, astronomical salaries, and lucrative
team endorsements probably mean that many players no
longer under what it means to wear the national
shirt. That truly is a shame.
So, let’s again lead by how we play and what we do.
Let’s smile and enjoy the game. Let’s produce
free-wheeling and robust creative respectful football
that incentivizes our opponents to do the same. Let’s
look to the negative only as benchmarks of what not to
do. I watched Barracudas, Challengers, AFC Aces and New
Stars distinguish themselves and Texas-South at the
national regional tournament. We can do it. Texas-South
is here for you. Please tell us what we can do for
you. Merci. Pace e salute. Pascal Paul Piazza,
President.
